Located in Fernwood, Cape Town, the project involved an extensive renovation to an early 90's residence.
The existing house on the site has been left unoccupied for almost a decade before our clients bought it for its spectacular location on the slopes of Table Mountain, close to Kirstenbosch gardens and with magnificent views all the way to the Hottentots Hollands Mountains. The previous owner divided the house up into two separate living units and the brief was to make sense of an illogical and illegible layout on a restrained budget.
The arrangement of living spaces was opened up as much as the existing structure allowed creating connections between floors and establishing panoramic views over the landscape. A dramatic new black kitchen acts as an anchoring element within the new double height living space. A warm palette of timber, natural stone and prominent black elements give the house a sensuality and sophistication it lacked before.
